The Microelectronics Lab designs the integrated circuits (chips) that form the "heart" of the company's products. Consisting of engineers with a high degree of specialization specialisation and experience, and equipped with the latest hardware and software tools, this laboratory is in a position not only to support current company products, but also to take the lead in innovative product development, which is based more and more on sophisticated ICs.
Relying on its know-how and experience, the laboratory currently is exploiting "Systems-on-a-chip" technology to build high complexity chips intended for the company's telecommunications and defence-related products. Systems including processors, memories, DSPs, and various peripherals (IP blocks) are integrated on the same chip, reducing product cost, size, and power consumption, increasing reliability and efficiency and safeguarding INTRACOM TELECOM's know-how. Areas addressed by these developments include point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, wired and wireless systems carrying ATM, IP, xDSL, ISDN and PDH.
Recent developments are raising the complexity in this area to unprecedented levels (millions of gates per chip), requiring even higher levels of performance and demanding faster time-to-market. The Lab's successful response to these challenges plays a significant role in the success of the company's next generation products.
